The Death of the Conference Room Star Phone?

Clear One Interact AT with Wireless Control

We recently played around with Clear One’s audio conferencing solution, and were blown away by both the sound quality and the flexibility.  Are the days of the conference table star phone numbered?  For premium conference rooms, the answer is a definite yes.

The main complaint about traditional conference phones is the fact that you have to place them smack dab in the middle of your conference room, right on the table.  The aesthetic effect can be unimpressive, it takes up valuable real estate on your table, and for longer tables the pickup quality can suffer on the far ends.  Also, invisibly running a wire out of the middle of your conference room can be tricky.

Enter Clear One’s Interact AT with Wireless Control.  Hi-lights:

1. Up to 3 (expandable to 9) microphone jacks, for exceptional pickup quality in every corner.

2. Works with a wide variety of mics, which can be put on the table (a), drilled into the table with low profile presence(b), or attached to the wall or ceiling (c).

3. Wireless dialer you can place anywhere (with direct-connect options for Enterprise phones).

4. Built-in noise cancellation reduces any background noises your conference room may have from fans or HVAC systems.

5. Automatic level controls help keep the loud-talkers in check, and the low-talkers audible.

One of the biggest reasons we prefer in-person meetings is nuance.  Sometimes the nuance in a person’s behavior or tone of voice can speak louder than their words.  But until the days of teleportation arrive, we will keep searching for the highest quality remote conferencing tools to capture that nuance.

What do you think?  Is HD audio important for conferencing?  Is the Skype/PC speaker combo enough?  Do you love your conference phone or hate it?
