The Pivot Power Strip: Refreshing the dull

Quirky.com, a website that uses community power to help turn inventive ideas into business ventures, has helped turn a simplistically genius idea into ready-to-buy reality: The Pivot Power Strip.  First off, kudos to this website.  This is the first we’ve heard of quirky.com, and we love the idea of grass roots business.  Apparently products go into production only after enough people (960 in this case) commit to buying the product.  This guarantees the inventor a return on their production costs, resulting in creative products like this actually getting made.

The Pivot Power Strip solves a common problem caused by the lack of a universal power supply size.  Probably most of us have at least once struggled on bended knee to finagle that one fat boxy power supply into a free jack.  We try reworking all the skinny power supplies around it, we try flipping it 180 degrees, but it just doesn’t work.  (Okay so its a mundane problem. We work in offices, people, not every day is high stakes action!)  Worry no more with the Pivot Power Strip.  With six outlets, you can count on six power supplies of whatever shape (2 or 3 prong) to fit just fine.  Plus, it will fit where other power strips won’t by snaking into different positions, or stay put by wrapping around the leg of a table.

Admittedly, this thing solves problems that are far from life-threatening.  But again, we work in offices.  Same old, same old offices.  For $23, you can add a little flavor to your office decor, a little uniqueness.  Ultimately the Pivot Power strip is cool not because it solves major problems.  Its cool because every other power strip isn’t.  A lot of office gear looks, well, lame.  Our hat goes off to anyone who stands up and says “It doesn’t have to be that way!” Way to stand out from the crowd, Pivot.  We can only hope to see more people challenging the designs of traditional office technology equipment.
